gulf bravo two science museum

The club are proud to announce their association with the Science Museum in supporting their 'Inspired' project.

After negotiation with the Science Museum, OFCOM and RSGB, it was agreed that the club could hold a 'Notice of Variation' against the club callsign G8SRC allowing the use of the special event callsign GB2SM, steeped in historical significance for the Science Museum at Kensington.
The NoV allows the use of the callsign by the club at special events held by the Science Museum at their site at Wroughton, near Swindon, and its particular purpose will be to support the 'Inspired' project.
The call was first established by the RSGB at the Kensington site in 1955 where a permanent radio facility was established. Many thousands of visitors, amateurs and public alike, must have visited and indeed used the station during its thirty odd years of existence, and many amateurs rue its passing to this day. Here is a qsl card proudly held by erstwhile club committee member Frank, G3JOT.

Our first event at Wroughton is the 'Heritage Weekender' on 8th/9th September. We will run a single station and expect to be trying all bands, although we will focus on 40/80 so that we can work primarily UK stations. We probably won't be a 'big gun' as we have limited space for antenna setup. We'll be using a Cushcraft vertical. QSL will be via the bureau to our QSL manager, M5CBS.

Please see the 'Inspired' website here, where you can learn more about the project and its aims. VOTE INSPIRED!!
