Hi.
Is anyone using UBUNTU and QSSTV? Try as i might, I can't get QSSTV to install correctly through the Synaptics Package Manager. It goes through the process of installing as it does with all packages, but afterwards doesn't appear in any of the menus so I have no way of launching the program, and I have no idea of where the folder is it's installed to, or which file to run if I did know. Any help appreciated. 73 Steve |

Try running it from the command line (try caps and lowercase).

Thanks for the reply Steve.
Unfortunatly as stated in my original post, I cant find where it has installed to, so cant run it from the command line. I have tried installing it from command line as well with the same results, I cant find the executable file to run, and I need to put in the path where a file stored to be able to run it. Ive checked all the usual folders where progamms get installed to and it simply isn't anywhere to be found. Oh well, I'll plod on with MMSSTV running under Microcon Windows I suppose. ![]() |

I've just tried installing it under the latest ubuntu, and form the command line:
steve@office:~$ which qsstv /usr/bin/qsstv And /usr/bin is in the default path. Not sure why it's not working for you. However, in my experience qsstv is nowhere near as good as MMSSTV under windows (auto mode detection etc). I think last year I spent some time running MMSSTV under Wine (again under ubuntu). I also had some success running PSK31 windows apps under wine. It's amazing what works nowadays! I hope this helps - good luck :) Steve M0SPN |

Hi Steve.
Yes thats exactly what I've tried. I've had no problems running PSK etc, just QSSTV, maybe its a hardware issue and Ubuntu isn't supporting my PC correctly although it reports that it is, I have had problems with the built in Intel graphics not supported fully. I've steered clear of Wine, I have tried it with success though, but it seemed a bit pointless running a different software enviroment and then having to emulate the one I was trying to get away from. I was hoping to run strictly Linux based stuff only. I wonder why other digital modes have good alternatives out there for Linux, yet SSTV has just one option for software, QSSTV. I'm surprised no one seems to be offering up something better. Wouldn't it be nice if the author of MMSSTV wrote a version for Linux. Oh well, never mind, I live in hope. Ubuntu/ Linux distro's are getting more popular, so its just a matter of time before more radio related software is available for them. |
